Press release from Col. Rob Maness (ret.)
December 12, 2014
As parents of a special need child, Candy and I are immensely relieved that come January Louisiana will have two US Senators fighting the attempted Federal takeover of Louisiana’s Education system known as ”Common Core.” Over the past year, I visited all of our states 64 parishes and heard from diverse Louisianans drawn to our campaign in part due to strong opposition to Common Core and our “Opportunities For All” plan for Education (link: http://www.robmaness.com/opportunities-for-all/)
I am thankful to see our conservative Senator, David Vitter, has proposed a set of new ideas to get Louisiana completely out of Common Core. Senator Vitter highlights two important facts in his statement. First, that Common Core IS controlled by national groups and interests OUTSIDE of Louisiana. Second, that Common Core is causing great frustration and beyond in many classrooms and homes, and not because of greater rigor in the standards. I wholeheartedly applaud and support Senator Vitter’s proposed plan to remove us from Common Core and that while we do need rigorous standards, we must have the buy-in of parents AND teachers, with COMPLETE Louisiana Control. Senator Vitter and I agree – parents in Washington Parish know better than bureaucrats in Washington, DC how best to educate our children.
As we move forward my supporters and I, along with all the other grassroots groups working to solve this challenge, will continue to work with Senator Vitter and his team to ensure Louisiana is removed completely from Common Core!
Col. Rob Maness (USAF, ret.) is a conservative, a vet, and one of us. During a 32-year career in the Air Force, he rose from the lowest enlisted rank at age 17 to full Colonel. He ran for the United States Senate in Louisiana in 2014. After announcing his candidacy, Rob traveled over 86,000 miles in his truck and visited all 64 parishes. He completed his 50-town-hall tour, where he introduced 8 positive, forward-thinking plans to solve the challenges facing Louisiana and our country. He was endorsed by Governor Sarah Palin, Senate Conservatives Fund, Family Research Council, Gun Owners of America, National Association of Gun Rights, Gun Rights Across America, Eagle Forum, and Tea Party Express. Rob’s message still is one of liberty, prosperity, and certainty.
